In this workshop, you will comprehensively learn about and implement the open-source monitoring solution Zabbix. From a fundamental understanding of monitoring concepts to advanced configuration and integration of Zabbix into your existing IT landscape.

The course is structured into several modules that systematically build upon each other:

Module: Fundamentals & Basic Configuration

Introduction to monitoring fundamentals and Zabbix platform
Installation and setup of the lab environment
GUI navigation and basics
Various data collection methods (SNMP, agent-based, Java applications, web scenarios)
Host and item configuration and macro management

Module: Advanced Configuration & Integration

Template management for efficient configuration
Discovery configuration for automatic detection
Graph and trigger setup for visualization and alerting
RBAC & security concepts
API integration for advanced automation

Module: Operations & Maintenance

Configuring actions & notifications
System maintenance and best practices
Advanced visualization options
Service level definitions and reporting

Goal

After this course, you will be able to implement and manage Zabbix as a comprehensive monitoring solution in your IT infrastructure. You will acquire practical skills for configuring various monitoring methods for servers, network components, and applications, creating meaningful dashboards, and setting up effective alerting mechanisms. You will understand how to proactively detect and resolve problems in your physical and virtual infrastructure before they affect end users. The knowledge gained will enable you to optimize the performance of your systems, monitor resource usage of servers and network devices, and make informed decisions for infrastructure planning. Additionally, you will develop the competence to design customized monitoring solutions for your specific system landscape that meet the requirements of your organization, including integration with existing infrastructure systems and automation of routine system administration tasks.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of network technology and system administration is advantageous. Participants should be familiar with Linux/Unix basics and have experience working with servers and network components. It is recommended to bring your own monitoring scenarios for discussions.

Preparation

Each participant will receive a preparatory questionnaire after registration. We provide a complete laboratory environment for each participant, so that everyone can conduct their own experiments and implement complex scenarios. The agenda may be adjusted based on questions, participant feedback, and progress.
