A scalable, highly available, secure, self-syncing backend with authentication, permissions, messaging and analytics is a big chunk to build first. That’s why Firebase offers a strong alternative to your own backend in many situations. And even if you integrate certain functions in a separate service, Firebase can be used as a powerful partner. Let’s explore the advantages, possibilities and also limitations of Firebase.

The actual course content may differ from the above depending on the trainer, delivery, duration and the composition of participants.

More about Firebase

Firebase is Google's comprehensive backend-as-a-service platform for developing web and mobile applications. It provides a real-time database, authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, hosting, and analytics as an integrated package. Thanks to deep integration with Google Cloud, Firebase applications can be seamlessly combined with other Google services and scaled as needed.

History

Firebase was founded in 2011 by Andrew Lee and James Tamplin as a real-time chat service and quickly evolved into a full-featured backend platform. In 2014, Firebase was acquired by Google and has been continuously expanded since then. Google integrated Firebase deeply into its cloud ecosystem and made it the preferred platform for app developers who need quickly scalable backends without managing their own server infrastructure.

Today Firebase encompasses over 18 products and services, including Cloud Firestore as a modern NoSQL document database, Firebase Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Storage, and Firebase Hosting. Through tight integration with Google Cloud, developers can extend Firebase applications with native Google Cloud products at any time.
